Lee D. Cope

Lee Cope’s extensive background in litigation has developed into a statewide practice. His practice focuses primarily on nursing home litigation, medical malpractice, defective highways, and defective products, such as automobiles and industrial machinery that cause injury and/or death. Lee also litigates cases on behalf of special needs children who have been abused and neglected at group homes or other similar facilities. Attorneys across the state have teamed up with Lee and his team of paralegals, Jessica Mattie and Shanna Jarrell, in co-counsel agreements to provide excellent results for their clients.
Lee’s representation of his clients has garnered recognition. He is the South Carolina Association for Justice’s Chair of the Medical Negligence and Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect Committee. He was selected for membership in the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates that recognizes a select trial lawyers for their excellence in litigation. Lee has been chosen as a Super Lawyer by his peers over the past decade. In 2024 Lee was named to SC Biz News 2024 Power List. He is a former member of the SC Bar House of Delegates. He has lectured at seminars on topics such as nursing home abuse/neglect, medical malpractice and defective highways.
A Lowcountry native, Lee was born in Fairfax, South Carolina, and grew up in Hampton. After graduating from Wade Hampton High School, he joined the U.S. Army and served as a military policeman in Germany and stateside. After an honorable discharge from the military, he graduated from college and then law school at the University of South Carolina. Lee and his wife, Kim, have two daughters, Grace and Sarah, and son, Gibbs.
